Thursday, began with a guide on the Davidson - upstream of Looking Glass Creek at the Wilderness center. Midge Heaven - fished a size 20 or so salmon egg or san juan worm with 6x flourocarbon and a size 24-26 midge dropper on 7x. Midge color didn't matter much - just switch if no action. Landed 15 or so and lost as many due to the small hooks - Landed a 21 inch brown and saw a 24 or so hawg landed.
Sean landed in Hippie heaven Thursday night with the clothes on his back - looked like he just arrived from the RNC. Dirty looks from the locals and their goatees - quite ironic. Watched the Steeler-Tennessee game 30 miles from Tennessee with not a single Titan fan in attendence. Very good service - we will return to that restaurant again for sure.
Friday headed to Oconoluftee River in Cherokee NC. Trophy section - $20.00 annual pass and $7.00 per day. Fished the upper section - nice waterfall pool at the top. also did great under bridge across from new school. Blue and purple nymph worked great although it did not look like anything in nature.
Drove from Cherokee to Davidson River - Don't do that again. Davidson was lower than prior and fish were even more picky.
Saturday - Sean figured out the 7x and had a banner day on the Davidson. Midges again! We then hit Looking Glass creek below the falls for the spawning Brown trout - they must wait until Oct or nov to make the run.
Afternoon - went to Mineral Creek - above Reem. Dillingham center - pool - take left fork. 1 mile see pulloff with dumpsters - turn onto Stoney Fork Rd. Keep going - turns to gravel - go past gate. Stop at last pulloff before dirt road makes huge left - Hike back in and down for native rainbows - any dry caddis or stimulator.
