Pine Creek Gorge

Rigged up my bike for fly rod transport and drove 4 hours to fish the Pine Creek Gorge. Stayed at a nice private campground at Cedar Run - Petticoat Junction. The family cooperated however the weather did not. We left after school on Thursday May 6, arriving just after dark to set up our first tent in 4 years. Setting camp went ok - the 40 degree temp that night was a little much for us city folk. I drove Friday morning to spend a few hours on Slate Run -2 hours and no fish - time to get back to the family. Heather then went on a 30 mile bike ride up the Gorge giving me time to fish Pine Creek. Caught 5 with one going 16 inches - mainly on March Brown nymphs. Hit another spot downstream at dusk with thousands of caddis about - no surface avtivity and none took my nymphs. A guy next to me caught 4 - asking what the hot fly was - he replied "corn." That night the rain hit - thunderstorms all night. We woke dry but with 30 mph winds and a forecast of 29 degrees Sat night with snow flurries. Needless to say, we packed it in and headed to State College for some food, the Pens game, and a hotel room.
